What We Do

Training

As a unit within Australian Army Cadets, SHSCU provides training with a strong emphasis on teamwork, friendship, self-discipline and character development. This includes courses in:

  • Drill
  • Bushcraft and Survival
  • First Aid
  • Weapons Safety
  • Radio Communications
  • Ceremonial Activities
  • Navigation

.

Activities

Members of SHSCU have unique experiences. Each year they spend up to a week in the bush spread over several camps. They are also offered specialist or leadership courses. All our cadets enjoy the activities listed below:

  • Bivouac
  • AFX (Cadet Outdoor Camp)
  • Shooting at a rifle range
  • Overseas Trips to Bisley

Battalion Bivouac is normally held during Term 1-2 holidays and AFX is usually held in the September holidays. If a cadet has shown potential to assume leadership roles, he can be chosen to attend a leaders promotion course which will teach him the qualities required to move onto the next rank.
